Bill Marsh Auto to Purchase Gaylord Ford
Traverse City-based Bill Marsh Auto has announced plans to purchase Gaylord Ford. The sale will be pending approval by Ford Motor Company and is expected to take several weeks to finalize. Gaylord Ford owner Gail Skerratt met with employees yesterday and told them of the plans for the sale. “I felt it was in the best interest of our employees, my family and our community to sell to Bill Marsh,” says Skerratt.
Gail assumed ownership of the dealership last year after her husband, Jeff, suddenly fell ill and died. Jeff had operated the Gaylord dealership for over 20 years. “The industry is changing and Bill Marsh seems to be on the cutting edge of what needs to be done to continue the success,” says Skerratt. “Plus they are very supportive of the communities where they do business.”
Gaylord Ford has 24 employees and annually sells an average of nearly 700 vehicles.
Bill Marsh currently operates dealerships in Traverse City, Kalkaska and Saginaw. The auto group has four new car dealerships along with two used car dealerships that are called Price Point. Adding a second Ford dealership continues a strong family history with the company. The Marsh family began in the car business by operating Bill Marsh Ford in Newtown, Pennsylvania in the 1950's.
“Gaylord Ford has been a successful dealership for a long time,” says Jamie Marsh. “They have a great core of employees with deep ties to the community and great attention to the needs of the customers. We are confident they will be a tremendous addition to the Bill Marsh group.”
In addition to the new and used car dealerships, Bill Marsh also operates J.D. Byrider buy-here, pay-here franchises in Traverse City and Saginaw, they run the Bill Marsh Body and Paint Center, Brake and Alignment Plus service center, a Thrifty car rental franchise and Line-X spray-in bedliners.
