Northport’s 5th annual Leelanau UnCaged street festival will be held on Saturday, September 30th from noon until 10 pm. Admission is free, thanks to generous support from our event sponsors: the Leelanau Community Foundation, Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos, Thomas & Milliken Millwork and Coldwell Banker Schmidt Real Estate.
The main streets of downtown Northport will be closed for the day to provide walking access to all venues. There will be 50% more artists this year including more than 50 performing groups, from musicians and storytellers to poets and dancers, plus local artists and culinary artisans.  There are several new performing groups this year, including Denise Davis and the Motor City Sensations, along with favorites like Grupo Aye. The Kids’ Tent is always popular, and this year newcomer puppeteer Kevin Kammeraad will be strolling the streets with his life-size puppets.
Last year about 6,000 people attended with larger crowds expected this year.  Local bars and restaurants will be open later than normal for this event.
Started in 2013, to showcase the tastes and talents of Leelanau County, Leelanau UnCaged was inspired by similar festivals staged by the late avant-garde composer John Cage, who famously said, “Get yourself out of whatever cage you find yourself in.” UnCaged has grown every year since and has been blessed by gorgeous weather. The event is always on the last Saturday in September.
