Addiction Treatment Services, with a grant from Northern Michigan Regional Entity, provided training for area agencies in Auricular Acupuncture March 23-24 in Traverse City with Faith Reformed Church graciously providing the space.

Attending the training were eighteen individuals from the following agencies:  Catholic Human Services, Munson Behavioral Health, Thomas Judd Center, Great Lakes Recovery and Addiction Treatment Services (ATS).  This training enabled these agencies to offer the technique to their clients who suffer from heroin, alcohol, cocaine and nicotine addictions.  This evidence based, empirically researched technique has also been proven effective for treatment of PTSD, chronic pain, insomnia, depression and anxiety in addition to its effectiveness with substance use disorders.  Training was facilitated by Virginia June, LMSW, MAC, CAADC, RT, ADS, former Director of Integrated Therapies at Brighton Center for Recovery and registered trainer for the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).

ATS is currently offering this protocol to all clients in the following programs:  the PIER, detoxification unit; Dakoske Hall, men’s residential; Phoenix Hall, women’s residential and Bridges Counseling, Outpatient services with enthusiastic reception from clients and staff.
